Some Los Angeles plastic surgeons weren’t satisfied with the result and blamed the doctors who did her surgery. They said that it was visible she had saline implants that were incredibly close to the cavity in her chest.
This causes her pectus excavatum upper body deformity to be more prominent. Hayden Panettiere’s unsuccessful breast surgery is just a reminder that you don’t need to hate the uniqueness of your body.

He's one of the best power forwards of all time, and many believe him to be the best European player of all time. Being on top of your career requires being a body and mind-strong person. That needs constant training and focus on yourself.
I think that these sports legends are the best example for all of us, for how important it is to work on your best self every single day.

It seems he underwent corrective surgery at some time in his life since you can tell from his early pictures that he had a big hole in his chest. But, I am pretty sure that he is one of the few people that maintains a healthy figure by lifting weights, not just surgery.
Here's a Facebook post on a fan page about a comment he posted on a mini-documentary video from 2018, regarding his chest deformity.
Here's another post where he openly talks about his pectus excavatum journey.
Bobby Fischer
Robert James Fischer, the eleventh World Chess Champion, was an American chess grandmaster who lived from March 9, 1943, until January 17, 2008.
He was a chess genius who, at the age of 13, won "The Game of the Century." He became the youngest ever Chess Champion at the age of 14. At 15, he became both the youngest grandmaster and the youngest candidate for the World Championship.
When you go through some of Bobby Fischer's earlier games, you will see photos of his with the sunken chest being zero percent shy about it.
Magnus Carlsen
Magnus Carlsen, born on 30th November 1990, a Norwegian chess grandmaster. He is the current World Chess, Rapid Chess, and Blitz Chess Champion.
His best classical rating of 2882 is the highest ever recorded. Carlsen also holds the longest undefeated streak in classical chess at the highest level. Going through his Instagram, there are photos available to clearly see his pectus excavatum.
Also, check out the hashtag #pectusexcavatum, look on Instagram to find some people with your condition. One of them is this grandmaster, who does not have a problem with his pectus when it comes to self-image.
As I can see in his photos, it is clear that he maintains his body with working out.
Carles Puyol
Carles Puyol Saforcada was born on April 13, 1978. He is a retired professional footballer from Spain who spent his whole playing career with Barcelona.
He mostly played as a right-back but could also play either center-back position. Despite the deformity, he can maintain a fine bodily condition and have a successful sporting career.
Ed Cole
Bodybuilder Ed Cole competed on America's Got Talent in Season 6, and got eliminated quickly. He's an older person who can undoubtedly teach much about health and motivation if we consider his physique. Above I shared the video of him:
Van Den Hoogenband
Pieter Cornelis Martijn van den Hoogenband (born 14 March 1978) was a Dutch swimmer and a triple Olympic winner. Look at his supreme confidence. Swimming is a fantastic way to repair pectus excavatum. It is incredible for both physical and mental health.
It works all muscles from head to toes. If you swim correctly, you will work 50 muscles at the same time. If you’re overweight, I recommend you try swimming because it puts less impact on your joints than running or cycling. Also, it is more affordable.
Steve Pfiester
Steve Pfiester is a famous bodybuilder with congenital pectus excavatum. He is also an actor in the TV show Fat March. A lot of people who suffer from concave chest look up to him. He is a great motivator and a person.
I had a chance to meet him personally, and he shared some excellent pectus excavatum fitness tips with me. Steve explained how well caved in chest focused workouts can improve your condition without undergoing surgery.
He used to have a severe case of protruding ribs, because of weak core musculature. I really think that his abnormally sunken sternum (breastbone) can be returned to normal positioning by using a vacuum bell.
It great in children and toddlers, but recent studies have proved how effective vacuum bell therapy is for adult patients. He grew up as an overweight kid on a diet, who wore a shirt at the beach.
As a personal trainer, he can relate to people with excessive weight, because he was born with pectus excavatum. As he started working out, he saw a fantastic improvement in his lung capacity and heart health.
On top of that, his self-confidence boosted to great heights.
Steve Reeves
Steeve Reeves was an American pro bodybuilder, actor, and humanitarian. At the prime of his career, he was the highest-paid actor in Europe. He was extremely famous in the 1950s where he starred in Italian made peplum movies.
There, he was playing the well-built, muscular characters of Hercules, Sandokan, and Goliath. Steeve is most known for his role where he played Hercules, even though he did that only two times. He is probably the most famous bodybuilder with pectus excavatum that ever lived.
He has every single symptom of pectus excavatum. His condition was mild, and he had flared ribs. In an interview, he said that his concave chest was giving him social anxiety as a teenager. He wasn’t comfortable in his own body and decided to do everything he could to repair it.
As you can see, he not only fixed his deformity but also became one of the most attractive men in his generation. That’s how powerful participating in bodybuilding is if you suffer from the sunken chest condition.
Stanimal De Longeaux
Stan “Stanimal “ De Longeaux is a French-American bodybuilder who is an IFBB Pro and Classic Physique Competitor. Back in the days, when he was a youngster, he was amazed by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s physique.
Also, he always admired superheroes and muscular athletes. He started working out in his bedroom with a simple bench and a couple of dumbbells. After that, he decided to join a gym and started to bulk up even more.
His friends on Instagram encouraged him to start competing in bodybuilding contests. The encouragement and body aesthetics motivated him to treat bodybuilding seriously and become one of the best weightlifters with pectus excavatum to this date.
People love him because he is open with sharing his philosophies and advice about bodybuilding with amateur lifters. You can check Stanimal’s full interview with Cyberflexing here. He shares his opinion on which exercises are his favorites.
Also, he talks about the process required to get a physique like his.
Cody Miller
Cody Miller is an American swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke. Breaststroke is a swimming stroke in which the swimmer is positioned on its chest.
It is essential for the torso not to rotate. Swimming is a sport that requires a well-developed musculature and a lot of endurance.
When Cody was young, he was dealing with the pectus excavatum shortness of breath. He started swimming at eight years old, trying to solve his problem and to avoid surgery.
Swimming and other muscle-building exercises, helped him to correct his body appearance, making the pectus excavatum dent less visible.
If you're into swimming, I recommend you look up to Cody as an idol. Swimming is a great sport that can help you improve your deformity, and quality of breath, non-surgically. His hard work brought him many awards.
Cody won a bronze medal in the men's 100-meter breaststroke, at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Cody has also won a total of seven medals in major international competitions: 3 golds, two silver, and two bronzes.
I believe Cody used his pectus excavatum deformity as a motivation to become healthier and better at the sport. Nowadays, he is an inspiration for many young boys who suffer from the deformity, all around the world.
Anthony Minichiello
Anthony Minichiello was born on May 24, 1980. He is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who led the Sydney Roosters in the National Rugby League. When he resigned, he had established records for the most games in the club's history.
He claimed to follow a regular exercise schedule and perform strength training exercises involving gymnastics on the weekends. But his preferred plan involves alternating between 3 to 4 bodyweight mini-workouts and one weekly strength session. We can confirm his physical fitness and the diminished severity of his pectus excavatum deformity.

Because of the regular swimming, his deformity is now considerably less visible.
Edmen Shahbazyan
He is an Armenian/American mixed martial artist competing in the middleweight division of UFC. There has been a discussion about his sunken chest on Sherdog Forum (MMA community of 160 000 fighters and fans); you can check here.
In addition to his concave chest, he also has a pectus posture, which further worsens his appearance, making his chest look more hollow.
I also researched his brother Leon Shahbazyan's physique to check whether this deformity runs in his family, but his chest doesn't seem to cave inward.
Professional MMA record:
- Total Fights - 14
- Wins - 11
- Wins by Knockout - 9
- Losses: 3
Despite his deformity, which probably gasses him out quicker than his competition, he still has a winning record, which is very impressive.
Matt Hughes
He is a retired mixed martial artist, widely considered one of the best MMA fighters ever. Matt is a two-time UFC Welterweight Champion, UFC Hall of Fame inductee, and NJCAA Hall of Fame inductee. He went undefeated in his junior and senior years.

Nate Diaz
Nate is an American professional MMA fighter currently fighting in the UFC. He has been training martial arts since he was 11 with his older brother Nick Diaz, who is a former IFC welterweight champion. Like the Hughes brothers, it is interesting how the Diaz brothers also have pectus excavatum.

Nick Diaz
He is an American mixed martial artist who fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's middleweight division (UFC).
Diaz is a former welterweight champion of Strikeforce, WEC, IFC, and UFC championship challenger. Nick Diaz is the older brother of fellow UFC fighter Nate Diaz, and the two brothers have influenced the sport of mixed martial arts.
As part of this demanding sport, he must maintain his body in an even supernatural condition. Although his pectus is still a little visible, that does not stop him from exercising for 5-6 hours per day guided by the motto that you always have to work hard!

Hebert Burns
A Brazilian mixed martial artist competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's Featherweight category. Gilbert Burns, a fellow UFC fighter, is his younger brother.
Like his brother, Herbert chooses the gym for head exercises and individual training, which is necessary for such athletes.
We have something in common with them, and that is the possibility to use the gym for repairing pectus excavatum. Despite his chest deformity, he is still a successful athlete whose health condition doesn't stop him from achieving big successes.

He has a noticeable dent in the chest, but he keeps a strong, firm body, and he can perform sports successfully.
Robert Drysdale
A lot of people in the pectus excavatum community are motivated by Robert Drysdale. Imagine how worse his body would look like if he didn’t have that amount of muscle mass in his upper body. Professional boxing requires a high amount of physical condition.
A retired mixed martial artist and coach at his BJJ academy, "Drysdale Jiu-Jitsu," is a Brazilian-American Brazilian jiu-jitsu 4th-degree black belt. With many World Championships under his belt, he was dubbed "America's jiu-jitsu superhero" by Vice magazine.
Many titles, such as "the most successful American grappler of his generation" by BJJ Heroes and "the best submission wrestler in the world" by Gracie Magazine, make him one of the most prominent stars with pectus excavatum.
Despite his visible deformity, he still does not omit his training for condition and strength from the daily routine. His deformity was not an obstacle to his success, and his body was accountable for his championships.

Quinton Jackson is a mixed material art fighter, actor and a former wrestler. Imagine the physicality required for these professions. He is one of the most motivating athletes with pectus excavatum.
The amount of muscle mass he has in the upper body makes his sunken chest much less noticeable. Personally, I am a massive fan of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. He is a big believer in hard work and practices what he preaches.
His work ethic in the gym is what makes him one of the most physically dominant athletes sports have ever seen. Here is a video that shows how much work he puts in into his body.
He performs a set of stretches, bodybuilding exercises, and even yoga to repair indented chest and prevent injuries.

In some interviews, he said that his chest acts as a defence mechanism. He is one of the most hard-working and energetic athletes in the wrestling world. In this video, he openly talks about his deformity in a joking manner.

Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, and died on April 15, 1865. He was a statesman and lawyer from the United States. Abraham leaded the country as its 16th president from 1861 until his murder in 1865.
Lincoln successfully led the country through the American Civil War. He was able to preserve the Union, abolitionized slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the American economy.
When it came to his health, there were many speculations, and because of that, there are many stories. His longtime law partner and biographer William H. Herndon described him as having a sunken chest and being short-breasted, but other denies it.
Others said that Lincoln might have had Marfan syndrome, a hereditary disorder marked by loose joints and frequently a malformation of the breast bone.
Also, there is information on his sleep apnea problems during the days when he lost a lot of weight. If we combine all this, it may be highly possible that he had a pectus excavatum deformation.
Frank Zappa
Zappa is a musician, composer, songwriter, activist, and filmmaker from the United States. He is a creator of rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, symphonic compositions produces nearly all of the 60-plus albums he released with his band during his 30-year career.
Frank Zappa is one of his generation's most creative and artistically varied musicians. This big superstar is one of the pectus excavatum patients.
As a kid, Zappa having pectus excavatum led to frequent illness, suffering from asthma, earaches, and sinus issues. A doctor cured Zappa's sinusitis by putting a radium pellet into each of his nostrils.
At the time, there wasn't information about the possible hazards of even low-dose therapeutic radiation. It finally was confirmed that nasal radium therapy has causative links to cancer, which is also the reason for his death.
This deformity does not stop him from making a huge career success or having self-esteem problems.
Conor McGregor
He's a mixed martial artist from Ireland and former featherweight and lightweight champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is currently rated #9 in the UFC lightweight rankings as of July 19, 2021.
He has a mild case of wide pectus excavatum which isn't localized at one spot. his appearance is worsened by having a pectus posture with shoulders slouched over. His huge chest tattoo makes the deformity less noticeable.
As you can see in the image above, in the first-ever UFC photoshoot, before the tattoos, his chest appears more concave.
He's the most popular pay-per-view (PPV) fighter in MMA history, having headlined five of the top six UFC pay-per-view events.
He is known for his drastic changes in body appearance in a short period. Those changes are possible with too much effort, constant exercise, and the right food. Even in a few months, incredible transformations are noticed in him and his body form and body weight, making his deformity almost invisible.

Gerald gained popularity with his roles in movies Law Abiding Citizen, Shattered, The Ugly Truth, Lara Croft Tomb Raider, The Phantom of the Opera and 300.
For his role in movie 300, Gerald needed to get a Spartan physique. To become King Leonidas, he needed to live in the weight room for 4 months and perform intense workouts. He did a combination of Olympic lifts, strongmen training, and metabolic movements.
His workout was designed by Mark Twight, who is a mountain climber who holds plenty of records. Performing Gerald Butler’s workout plan for 300 will help you in correcting your sunken chest in the long run.
